1st XI away at Calverton CC 2nd XI - Won by 51 Runs

 

The 1s inflicted only the second loss of the season onto the SNCL Division E champions Calverton to move themselves up into the top half of the league.

Electing to bat first they lost their first wicket without a run on the board but then Sam Charlton and Callum Gilbert put together a 114 run partnership.  Sam Charlton reached 50 with 6 4s and Callum Gilbert ended with 57 with 4 4s.  There were then some late and rapid runs from the lower order from Chris Hudson 21, Nick Proverbs 36, Daniel Brown 15 and Jake Benson 22*.  

The most memorable over for myself was the 44th where Jake Benson scored 14 of his runs consisting of 5 balls where 2 runs were scored off each thanks to some great, committed, team-focused running from Jake and his batting partner Joshua James.  Jake also hit a marvellously delicate reverse sweep for 4 from the other ball. 

Chasing 225 the home side made a disastrous start falling to 8 for 3.  Jake Benson (2 for 16 with 3 maidens; the wickets coming from excellent first slip catches from Mark Sampson) and Mark Sampson himself (1 for 21 with 4 maidens) bowled all of the first 18 overs and resticted the score to just 40 for 4 to put real pressure on the opponents.  They recovered a little but then Adam James brought himself on and made the honours list for the second week running after his century last week with 5 for 41 from his 9 overs.  Daniel Brown finished things off with the last wicket as Calverton lost by 51 runs.

 

2nd XI at home to Hoveringham CC 2nd XI - Lost by 5 Wickets

 

After being put into bat it looked like the game could have been over quite quickly as the score slipped to 83 for 6 but thankfully there was a tremendous recovery that saw us set a relatively tough target of 211.  The main run scorer was Prabhash Raturi who recorded a new high score in hitting 88 runs at almost a run a ball hitting 13 4s and a 6.  His partnership of 79 with Richard Clulow (who scored 38 with 5 4s and 2 6s for his highest 2nd XI score) was the highest 7th wicket partnership of the season.  Prabhash Raturi followed this with the highest 8th wicket partnership of 38 with Toby Gower who remained unbeated at the end of the innings on 13.

Hoveringham relied quite heavily on two of their hard-hitting batters, hitting 7 6s and 14 4s between them, to reach the target.  They lost 5 wickets in getting there with 2 for Toby Gower, 1 each for Will Cousins and Billy Jackson and a run out.

The team will very creditably finish mid-table in SNCL Division L.
